Online Office In the Works For Microsoft

Citing the success of Google’s free Writerly
online office suite, Microsoft seeks to bring it’s own Works
to the online scene.
The move would bring Microsoft Works
, the stripped-down versions of word-processing and spreadsheet software from its Office juggernaut, to a free, online environment. Works would be supported by revenue made from advertising, just like a Writerly and a number of other online word processing suites that are already on the market.
Microsoft’s main reservation about bring Works online is that it may conflict with sales of the full-featured Microsoft Office line of software. Office brought in $44 billion in sales last year, and the newest version, Office 2007, is due out next January alongside the release of Windows Vista.
