Netgear's SPH101 Skype Phone

Producers of the world’s most popular VOIP software team up with Netgear to bring the first wireless Skype phone to North America

Internet hardware producer Netgear has finally begun to ship its wireless SPH101 Skype phone to buyers across North America. The phone, originally throught to ship in July, automatically connects to the Skype network through any open 802.11b or 802.11g WLAN within range.

Users can access many of the features included in the Skype PC software directly through the phone, including voice-calling, contact management and the ability to place low-cost VOIP (voice over internet protocol) calls to anywhere in the world.

The SPH101 is available for pre-order on Amazon.com for $250, the manufacturer’s retail price. Amazon also indicates that the products will ship to customers on October 15th, approximately the same time the Skype devices will be distributed around Europe and Asia.
