Tivo Talks Unbox with Amazon

TiVo and Amazon are allegedly engaged in talks regarding integration of the new Unbox video download service in TiVo products.

Unbox was unleashed by Amazon earlier in the month to mixed reviews. While the service boasts a substantial variety of video downloads priced between $3.99 and $35.99 US, Unbox was criticized for its technical shortcomings. Unbox users, for example, won’t be able to burn downloaded videos to DVD, only able to watch on computers running windows on either the Unbox browser media player or a Windows Media Player equivalent.

Some of these problems would be resolved if a deal was reached with TiVo, as users would be able to watch videos directly on a TV. Rumors of the talks jumpstarted Amazon and TiVo stock early this morning, but gains fell back to status quo as the morning wore on. We’ll keep you updated with any further news regarding the matter.
